Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said that National Super Alliance (NASA) is in no hurry to name a flag bearer that will lead the coalition in the 2017 General Election.
Addressing resident of Kilifi on Monday, Kalonzo said that the Sunday night meeting between himself, ODM leader Raila Odinga, ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula was purposely convened to discuss the strategy to use to send Jubilee government home.
“Out meeting was not aimed at deciding who among us will be NASA’s flag bearer, but to strategise on how we will defeat Jubilee in August 8 elections.
“We have a lot of time to decide who will be the coalition flag bearer, there is no need to panic over that,” said Kalonzo.
The Wiper leader however urged his NASA co-principals to support his bid saying he is best suited to defeat President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Even Uhuru Kenyatta knows that if I am picked to be NASA flag bearer we will get victory before noon. I have everything that is needed to defeat Jubilee.”
NASA is in a state of quagmire over who will be its presidential candidate with all its four principals eyeing the position.
The situation was complicated further after reports last week that the coalition technical committee had proposed a Raila-Kalonzo candidature, with further removed pointing at a Mudavadi-Kalonzo lineup.
On Monday, Mudavadi’s supporters in Kakamega held peaceful demonstrations in support of their candidate’s presidential push.
The supporters claimed that they would not accept anything less than the top slot for Mudavadi, threatening to ditch NASA and demand that their candidate runs for president under the Amani party ticket if the coalition does not settled on him as the flag bearer.
ODM leaders and supporters including Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho have claimed that Raila Odinga is the only principal in NASA who has the support of the country and can dislodge Jubilee.
