Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has launched fresh attacks on Deputy President William Ruto over the 2022 presidential elections.

Speaking in Kiambu on Thursday, Kabogo said that DP Ruto’s 2022 ambitions were the reason he rigged the Jubilee nominations to favour his competitor Ferdinand Waititu.

Governor Kabogo, who is seeking reelection as an independent candidate labeled Waititu as a Ruto project adding that a vote for him (Waititu) on August 8 will be a vote for Ruto’s 2022 presidential ambitions.

“I’ve said this before and I will say it again, Ruto will have to work hard to hard to get votes from Central region in 2022. We will not automatically back his candidature because he is Uhuru’s deputy,” said Governor Kabogo.

Last year, there were talks that Kabogo was being lined up to be Ruto’s running mate in the 2022 presidential elections.

But from his pronouncements on Thursday, Kabogo’s eyes may be set on the top job.

“We will not elect anyone in 2022 unless we see the work done. I am not going to deputise anyone. He can actually also be my deputy,” Kabogo said.

He also trashed calls by Jubilee leaders (President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto) for a six-piece vote saying such a push will backfire.

During their rallies in Kiambu on Wednesday, Uhuru and Ruto urged the residents to vote for Jubilee candidates to give the party the necessary numbers in all Houses.
